Between the time of the overthrow of the Emperor and the Japanese invasion, China was rife in bandits and warlords. Overseas Chinese help build these “Dil Lao” to combat the situation.
Hi, Richard:
Nice photos.
I’m interested in 台山市斗山镇塘美村529224 where my grandparents from over a century ago. Have you been there? How do we go there or which resources can I find? I don’t have a specific home address anymore as we I’m 3rd generation oversea Chinese although we have Lee family Tree book that grandpa kept. I heard that grandpa’s younger brother’s next generation lived there but may have immigrated somewhere else.
Hi Freda: Yes, I have been to Ill Shan. It is a nice town.I am not familiar with the hotels there. However, I am familiar with the hotels in Tai Cheng. Go to Taicheng and rent a car/van with driver. The driver probably won’t/ don’t speak English. Or go to CTS, ask for Mandy, she speaks a little English. Take your book with you. She can make a arrangements for you. I would expect to spend a week for there is much to see in Taishan. Good Luck! BTW: I am in the San Francisco Bay Area. Where do you live?
Felix
Beautiful shot. One day I will visit my family’s homeland.
