These farmers are preparing the bedding for raw rice. The soil comes from the bottom of the reservoir which is rich in nutrients. It is spread over dimpled plastic pallets. Where the dimples are the rice is inserted. Then the entire pallet is covered and the rice is allowed to germinate and grew into seedlings. When the time comes the seedlings are plucked and planted in rice paddies.
